As you'd expect, the decor is definitively red, with bold designs, funky furniture and hip posters decorating the rooms. A complete remake of an otherwise humdrum 1970s building, there are plenty of luxuries and conveniences underpinning the colorful clichés.

Rouge is another of the Kimpton Group's high-concept boutique hotels in DC. The theme is right over the top, from the red leather doors to the paintings of red-accented vampish women, to the tiny red fish in the lobby fish tank. In fact, white is the accent colour here, with strategic splashes of red, such as on the classic white statue in the lobby which wears - what else? - a red feather boa. Rooms include flatscreen TVs, CD players and inspirational animal-print terry robes. Specialty rooms include 'Chat Rooms' (with computers), 'Chow Rooms' (with kitchenettes) and 'Chill Rooms' (with Sony PlayStations). Guests enjoy free Bloody Marys and cold pizza. Amidst all this hipster vibe are plenty of less-adventuresome guests seeing red as they realise that they're not at the Marriott.
