A mid-range hotel in the heart of the city is enough to give you a taste of the Amadeus flavour. Touches of luxury, friendly staff and subtly-stylish rooms put it not only a nose but a full head ahead of the competition.

The entire hotel is a pleasing combination of red and white (was the architect in love with the Austrian flag?) and its designers certainly had a penchant for carpet; blood-red paisley carpeting (it looks better than it sounds) covers the entire lift and climbs the walls in some rooms. The foyer looks like a 19th-century living room, with chandeliers, period furniture and a handful of po-faced portraits, and while rooms don't quite match it for style, grace or space, they still do a good job of creating a comfortable atmosphere. Bathrooms are bright, white, spotless and fitted with modern trappings. Staff are well trained in making guests feel right at home, which makes the stay here all that more enjoyable.
