A tiny, family-run pension of only six rooms, Carantania is an excellent option for travellers looking for a place with a personal touch, a friendly welcome and a family atmosphere. It certainly won't be the most plush pension you've ever seen, but what Carantania lacks in sparkling new amenities it makes up with warmth and hospitality. Its sizable rooms are flooded with natural light and filled with a hotch-potch of furniture - some of which looks antique, some of which could do with a little repair - while bathrooms are the only modern corner of the pension. The reception area is pleasantly cluttered with plants, brochures and books, and the breakfast room, with its big bay window overlooking Kandlgasse, cosy ambience and calm shades of pink and light brown, is Carantania's highlight. As it is so small, advanced bookings are advisable.
