Lonely Planet review

With its low prices, simple decor and 'no fuss' attitude, Westend is the type of hostel suited to backpackers, adventurous families, and those wishing to pay the bare minimum for spending eight hours lying horizontal.More than handy to Westbahhof, one of the city's main train junctions, Westend is also popular with travellers training it around Europe for the summer. It's a magnet for those on a budget and those looking to make the most of their sightseeing time in Vienna, so come here to sleep, not to party. Dorm rooms contain between four and 12 beds and are what you pay for; simple wooden bunks fill most of the available space, floors and walls are generally devoid of colour (the facade is however a grand mix of purple, white and lime green) and the atmosphere is decidedly 'school dorm'. Each room however has its own separate bathroom and there are lockers for every guest. Staff are relaxed, friendly and happy to help, and extras, such as laundry, Internet access and the option of a packed lunch, are aimed at independent travellers.
