Of BA's many designer boutique hotels, Art Hotel is one of the first - and most successful. Rooms are small, but the combination of classical and modern (the building dates from 1927) means comfort meets style head-to-head. Add a rooftop terrace and Jacuzzi and you can't go wrong.

The first thing you notice after walking through the narrow entrance are the antique books that fill the wall behind the reception desk. The building's original elevator (complete with a hardwood interior and 'Viva Perón' scratched into its mirror) still makes its way up the narrow building's nine floors. Rooms are a tad small, but they're equipped to the max with hair dryers, mini-bars, dimmable lights, air-con and cable TV. Luxurious cast-iron canopy beds, hardwood floors and arched doorways all add to the romance and charm. Every month a new art exhibit graces the walls of the lobby and breakfast area. There's free internet service and a small bar for guests, and the clientele is far too welcoming to be pretentious. To top everything off, the hotel is smack in the middle of Recoleta.
