This is a relatively clean, popular and well-run place, albeit cramped with windowless rooms. What it lacks in atmosphere it makes up for with an excellent location, a great rooftop bar, nightly movies, TV and cooking facilities.

Fluoro lighting? Tick. Informative notice board? Tick. Tangle of rooms? Tick. Internet? Tick. Ticks? It looks clean enough. All you'd expect at a backpacker's inn is here, as the name suggests. Some nice touches include the friendly folk behind the desk and the decent communal areas. The rooftop bar is a fine place to recharge, as is the air-con lounge where movies are shown. There are also some welcome services like photo downloading and cheap tours of KL's surrounds (elephant reserves and fireflies). Rooms are boxy but clean - home away from home it ain't, but it's a good base from which to share traveller's tips and plan your next move. If you're partial to paranoia, perhaps don't read the 'news corner' clippings near the reception, which expose KL's underbelly of vice and racketeering.
