Lonely Planet Review

Like so many Auckland hostels, the outside of this old villa appeals more than the inside. Even so, this place will certainly do as a cheap head-resting option, and an effort is made to keep it reasonably clean. It's only a small place (sleeping 32 people tops), so a pleasant communal feel generally prevails, helped by the sociable staff. Dorms have four or eight beds, and the triple rooms are set in the small, verdant garden courtyard. Literally a minute's stroll to Ponsonby and Jervois Rds' cafes and bars, it's a great location, although the immediate surrounds are commercial and parking can be difficult. Befitting the neighbourhood, it's also gay-friendly. The rooms certainly aren't flash but the standard is quite acceptable. Facilities such as the kitchen, dining room, lounge and bathrooms are all shared.
