Lonely Planet Review

There's something about this place that puts ideas of Cluedo, Whodunnit? and Agatha Christie's murder mysteries in your head. Not that there's anything sinister about it, but the setting would be perfect for Colonel Mustard. The Chalet Chevron is a homely Tudor-style B&B with a friendly welcome from both James, the owner, and Lucy, a roly-poly chocolate-coloured sook of a Labrador. Nicely maintained period details of the building include a staircase next to stained-glass windows and sloped attic-style ceilings. Interiors feature floral fabrics and wallpaper, giving the place an English feel. There are 13 rooms in all, with three small single rooms in the lower level. If you want to know which room's best, then book number 3, which boasts old-fashioned charm but has a swanky new-look bathroom, while rooms 1 and 2 are the ones for view hunters. A sunlit breakfast room makes for a good social outlet to accompany a cooked breakfast, while the cosy lounge is the perfect spot to curl up and watch a grudge match (say, the All Blacks vs the Wallabies) on TV with your fellow guests.
