If you're looking for an affordable five-star with Pyramid views, your wish is granted. Less than a kilometre from the Giza Pyramids, this is a first-class Méridien, with a superb pool area and good restaurants.

The glitzy lobby of this hotel pulses with guests passing through on their way to the pool or the Pyramids and there's a palpable sense of excitement about being within walking distance of one of the great wonders of the world. The standard rooms are a generous size, with great bathrooms and some with marvellous Pyramid views, while the deluxe rooms are on higher floors - the ones that face the Pyramids have even better views. The Royal Club rooms are the best, renovated and located on the fifth floor. It's a great address to come back to after a day of exploration, with the usual inviting Méridien pool area (complete with wet-bar). At night a popular Nubian band performs at the Nubian Village restaurant. Service is extremely professional and helpful (especially since there are over 500 rooms) and the hotel is very child-friendly.
