Lonely Planet Review

Quotes If you're looking for an affordable five-star with Pyramid views, your wish is granted. Less than a kilometre from the Giza Pyramids, this is a first-class Méridien, with a superb pool area and good restaurants.

The glitzy lobby of this hotel pulses with guests passing through on their way to the pool or the Pyramids and there's a palpable sense of excitement about being within walking distance of one of the great wonders of the world. The standard rooms are a generous size, with great bathrooms and some with marvellous Pyramid views, while the deluxe rooms are on higher floors - the ones that face the Pyramids have even better views. The Royal Club rooms are the best, renovated and located on the fifth floor. It's a great address to come back to after a day of exploration, with the usual inviting Méridien pool area (complete with wet-bar). At night a popular Nubian band performs at the Nubian Village restaurant. Service is extremely professional and helpful (especially since there are over 500 rooms) and the hotel is very child-friendly.

Author Tip

If you're only staying a couple of days, you'll probably be too busy exploring tombs to even sample all the hotel restaurants. The Nubian Village is the best of them and you can follow that up with some sheesha (tobacco smoked through a water pipe). If you do manage to get bored, head to Oberoi Mena House for the excellent Indian at the Moghul Room and compare Pyramid views from their lobby bar.
