Surprises await behind the anonymous steel door of this 500-year old home, as it leads into a Batman-like lair of uncut stone walls, vaulted ceilings, narrow passageways and beautifully decorated rooms. The incredible views of the Old City from the rooftop lounge makes up for the rather shabby state of the bathrooms.

The quirkiness of the place means that there is a room for every taste. If you prefer atmosphere, try one of the 1st-floor rooms, each lovingly decorated with burgundy-coloured cushions and Arabic wall hangings. The downside on this floor is the lack of natural light and air circulation, making it a bit musty. The 2nd floor has one double room and a dorm, both rather basic, and a better triple room. The 3rd-floor dorm pokes above the roof and can get cool in the evenings. Two rooms come with private bath. Chris, the young Palestinian owner, has ambitious plans to revamp the upper levels and expand the rooftop terrace to include a small cafe. For the sake of convenience, cost and little extras (like free wi fi), this place is recommended as one of the best budget choices in the Old City.
