This bright, quiet hostel option near La Catedral has spacious dorms (sleeping six, eight or 12 people) with pleasant spring colours, and there are a couple of doubles with their own bathroom. With a maximum capacity of just 30 guests, the Itaca has a friendly, personal feel that distinguishes it from some of the larger, more standardised hostels. The owners were inspired to open it as a result of their own travels, and they have created a comfortable, relaxed sanctuary in the heart of Barcelona's gorgeous Barri Gòtic. All rooms have balconies: perfect for sitting and pondering your next move in this city of wonders. Breakfast is super-cheap, and you can make use of the kitchen. There's also a book exchange.
