Lonely Planet Review

Don't be put off by the forbidding sandstone facade because this large, bright hostal just off Plaça de Sant Miquel has rooms of all shapes and sizes. The doubles with balcony are the best value and you're a stone's throw from Carrer de Ferran, which leads to many of the Barri Gòtic's most appealing sights.Rooms are simple, clean and spacious and the high ceilings ensure that the overall impression is airy and bright - a sense helped by the unusual and expansive circular well that runs through the centre of the building. Although the building itself is quite old, the bathrooms are renovated and far better than most in this price category. Staff is friendly and traveller-savvy and you'll be thankful for the floor fans (in most rooms) if you're here in summer. All in all, this place wears its one hostel star well and is an excellent central choice for those on a budget. The owners offer a scattering of fairly spartan apartments in this part of town.
