Lonely Planet Review

Don't be put off by the grim staircase leading to this 2nd-floor hostel because this is one of Barcelona's coolest addresses. This is concept backpacking - comfortable, eclectic and founded on the principle that just because you're not paying high prices doesn't mean your rooms have to be without style. In each room, they've opted for a pea-green and lemon-lime colour scheme - make of that what you will! This is minimalism for backpackers, a place to be seen but without the party vibe of some hostels. That's hardly a problem because the street outside is lined with all sorts of bars generally jammed with students. Above each bed is a strip light in the form of a photo of some aspect of Barcelona, from abundant food close-ups to graffiti, that somehow fits the grunge look of El Raval. Rooms are secure behind their green doors, and although only some have their own bathroom, the public facilities are invariably clean and well maintained. There's also free tea and coffee and helpful staff who can offer plenty of tips for things to do and places to go in the barri (neighbourhood) and beyond.
