Lonely Planet Review

Run by a young, fun crew, Brussels's hippest hostel has heaps of amenities including an ivy-walled garden courtyard, a very cool black-tiled bar area that's as flash as any nightclubs' (with much cheaper beer) and an adjoining glassed-in conservatory that's great for Brussels's inevitable rain showers.Facilities at this party-lover's paradise include a self-catering kitchen, pool table, two Internet terminals, plus laundry. Lockers, situated in a secured luggage room, are a decent size and free, but require a small deposit if you don't have your own padlock. Van Gogh enforces an 18 to 35 policy, although even if you're barely pushing 25 you're likely to feel your age - most travellers here are school leavers or university students. Rooms are basic but adequate and either face the main courtyard, making sleep hard to come by when the bar's rocking, which it invariably is; or are located across the street and are (somewhat) quieter. Some doubles have private bathrooms for no extra cost. Breakfast (a stand-in-line-with-your-tray-for-your-rations-and-don't-even-think-about-asking-for-more-orange-juice drill) is included. Santé!
