Lonely Planet Review

From a backpacker crash pad the Queen has evolved into one of the most stylish and comfortable hotels in Hanoi's historic Old Quarter. It might be slick, but the Queen maintains a family feel - the ever-smiling family matriarch in the foyer will brighten even the most dour mood. The style begins in the lobby, with its flowing water and subtle use of rattan. The open stairwell adds light and space, though if approval comes through this is likely to be replaced by a lift. As it is, the rooms at the back are large, quiet and unfeasibly trendy for the money. The smooth lines of the furniture are complimented by wooden floors, subtle lighting and funky silk lamps. Extras include a DVD player and Internet in each room, and if you open the door you can hook into the wi-fi feed from the lobby (for now, at least). Travel harangued couples tend to appreciate the jacuzzis in some rooms (it costs more for the extra electricity) and the low-hassle approach of the staff. Rooms 501 and 502 have balconies and great views, though until the lift arrives you'll need to climb five floors to reach them.
