The Westin Miyako Kyoto is a famous Western-style hotel that's a classic choice for foreign dignitaries. The hotel surroundings stretch over 6.4 hectares (16 acres) of wooded hillside and landscaped gardens. Rooms are clean and well maintained.

The Westin Miyako Kyoto is perched on a hill in eastern Kyoto, surveying the city like a daimyo peering over his domain. It's hard to imagine a better location for a hotel and the Miyako makes the best of it. It's famous for hosting rock stars and dignitaries over the years (check out the photos of the rich and famous in the coffee shop). The common areas are spacious and calm and the rooms are clean, well appointed and well designed (but occasionally on the small side). There is a gym, a pool and a good collection of restaurants on the premises. Best of all, it's smack bang in the middle of the Higashiyama area, Kyoto's main sightseeing area. From the Miyako, you can easily walk to both the southern and northern districts of the Higashiyama.
