Lonely Planet Review

Quotes Just opposite Nijo-jo Castle, this attractive hotel is a decent choice for its on-site facilities (pool, restaurants, shopping). With a subway stop right nearby, it's also convenient for sightseeing in other parts of the city.

Part of a famous Japanese chain, the ANA is a large international hotel located right in front of Kyoto's famous Nijo-jo Castle. As you enter, you will be greeted by kimono-clad staff - a nice touch indeed. Despite its rather typical international hotel design, a valiant attempt is made to add a touch of Kyoto to the surroundings - including a karesansui (stone and gravel garden) on the roof of the second floor (visible from all upper floors). Rooms are typical for a hotel of this class. Other facilities include a daiyokujo (large common bath), swimming pool and sauna. Request a room on the west side, to enjoy views over the castle.

Author Tip

Visit Nijojo Castle, which is right in front of this hotel. Hop on the subway and enjoy easy access to most other parts of town, including JR Kyoto Station. Pay a visit to the fortune teller working on the B1 floor. It might come in handy, particularly if you like to plan ahead. You never know what might crop up.
