Perched on the edge of Government Center, a cobblestone's throw from the famed Faneuil Hall and a block away from North Station and the Fleet Center, this place has location nailed. A bit battered from the steady stream of travelling souls, it's a comfy, relaxed base camp for exploring. Formerly known as Beantown Hostel.

The hostel is relatively well maintained, though threadbare carpets and exhausted common-room couches testify to its popularity. Most rooms have skylights; bunk beds aren't so jammed that you'll inhale someone else's hiking socks during the night. The hostel provides linens and towels, coin-operated laundry and lockers. A TV in the small common room seems to be on constantly; the general smallness of the place engenders random conversations with fellow travellers. It makes no matter that the place lacks kitchen facilities. Why would you want to eat in when pubs and restaurants to fit every taste and budget are within a few blocks, as is Haymarket. Best of all? A few steps down the street, Hilton's Tent City boasts four floors of a traveller's fantasy: camping equipment, outerwear, gadgets and gear.
