Located a quick jaunt from downtown Boston, this dreamy, arts-and-crafts-style inn seems to have popped up like a magic mushroom from a favourite fairy tale. A quiet elegance is accented with beautifully carved oak panels, leaded windows and, if you play your cards right, a working fireplace in your room. Amenities and services match those of high-end hotels - except for those pesky add-on charges: they don't exist here. The staff blissfully blends attentiveness and respect for privacy, a difficult balance in giant megalopolis hotels down the road. A full breakfast buffet (we're talking a hearty, gourmet meal that'll fuel you well into lunchtime), wireless Internet and off-street parking are all included. Across the street an exquisitely restored Victorian holds even more rooms. Both places boast tree-shaded decks, a warm welcome to pets and a location that's a heartbeat from the Hub of the Universe.
