This old Victorian has a spare elegance that echoes old Harvard: dark wood and creamy walls. It also has an Internet kiosk tucked into an old telephone nook, quilts on the beds and antique writing desks.

Rooms are relatively spacious for this cheek-to-jowl town, and a top-floor roost offers plenty of space (with skylights and inventive nooks) for a family or group of friends. A clean and gracious place, the inn offers free off-street parking, wireless and DSL Internet access in each room, 24-hour access to munchies, a continental breakfast and a nice neighbourhood location which the denizens of academia call home. While the T and bus stops in Harvard Square will take you anywhere, the bus stop across the street will get you to MIT and Cambridge Galleria in a flash. Also across the street are the public library and swimming pool. The staff are friendly and eager to offer advice on where to eat and roam, with tips on the best ways of getting there.
