Lonely Planet Review

Quotes An excellent mid-range choice for the intimate feel and great prices. Rooms are small, but the renovations in 2003 made good use of the space. Furnishings are not top-end, but we appreciate that the decor is balanced.

There's a nice warm, manageable feel to this place that extends from the marble lobby up the hallways (with their dark-wood moulding and stained glass ceilings), into the rooms themselves. Room styles vary from modern Japanese to European designs, though all have king-size beds. We liked the cosy feel and wooden floors of the Japanese rooms (the lowest priced) but appreciate the spa showers and marble-top workstations in the deluxe (around 3000.00). Since the price difference is not great between rooms we suggest checking a few out to get the size and style you like. The hotel is well located near the MRT line running north-south through the city.

Author Tip

Get on that MRT and head to Danshui (30min) to explore old forts, temples and the first university in Taiwan. If you're a bird watcher, stop off at Guandu Nature Park. You can walk or ride a bike the rest of the way to Danshui. Just east of the hotel at the Landis, Paris 1930 offers the best nouvelle cuisine in town.
