The 55-room Savoy boasts spacious rooms (all have a sitting area), big marble bathrooms, a library, a sky-lit restaurant and roof terrace. It pampers guests with in-house fitness trainers, hairdressers, sauna and gym, though it is a little far from the city centre.

Built in 1884 in Art Nouveau style, the Savoy is an indulgent slice of luxury in a very peaceful part of town, a stone's throw from Strahov Monastery. Passing through the doors, you're immediately conscious of the calm efficiency and understated elegance that defines this venerable hotel. Staff are courteous and helpful, which is just as well given the whopping price tag. The rooms are tastefully designed, thankfully avoiding most of the overblown interiors of some top-end hotels in Prague. If your budget stretches to the best room in the house, the 'presidential suite', you'll have a big terrace on which to sun yourself and take in the stunning vista over the rooftops and spires, and you get a quite nice sofa too. The fancy Lobby Bar is, apparently, a meeting place for prominent artistic types and 'Prague's cultural elite'.
