This European-style oldie sits close to Rittenhouse Square, and a few of the rooms on the highest floors provide a glimpse of the park. The staff are friendly and helpful, but rooms are diminutive and garishly coloured.

Though this Victorian old-timer wins points for its proximity to Rittenhouse Square and its small, pretty marble lobby, the rooms in this 14-storey tower victimise their guests with garish green carpet, deeply contrasting red chairs and vivid floral bed coverings. Merry year-round Christmas! Rooms and bath facilities are small, clean and generic. Should you be arriving by horse, well-mannered doormen wear riding boots and look like technicolour footmen from any number of colourised miniseries being broadcast on cable TV, itself available in each room.
