Lonely Planet Review

Quotes You're coming to town to see the sights on a tight budget. You're going to be out most of the day and want a clean room near a happening area with lots of cheap eats, and hopefully a veggie option. Hence, the Chrysler.

The Chrysler is a bit of a love hotel, which explains the 5th-floor entrance, the darkly lit hallways, and the check in desk that looks like a ticket counter. But it also explains why the rooms are kept spotlessly clean and have large, firm beds and new bedding. Don't worry, there's nothing sleazy happening here. At most, you may see a nervous pair of office workers checking in for a few discreet hours. Rooms come in two sizes, and it's worth it to shell out the extra few hundred for the larger. You still won't have a view, but you won't feel so cramped when you get out of bed to go to the bathroom.

Author Tip

The Shida area is a popular, crowded university neighbourhood, which means cheap food, cafes, cafes, and more cafes, and lively bars abound. JB's bar (tel: 2364 8222; 148 Shida Rd) features delicious Taiwanese microbrews. Just south of the hotel, Cottonfields (tel: 2364 8899; 273 Roosevelt Rd, Sec 3) sells organic products and Chiang Kai Shek Memorial Hall is just a 20-minute walk north.
