Looking for the cheapest place in the centre of the New City? While the Kaplan may be nothing to write home about it's one of the few remaining budget places in this area that kept its doors open through the second intifada. For 45.00 two people can share a basic room with toilet, shower, phone and little else. The hotel does benefit from large windows that bring in fresh air and give way to views of Jaffa St. The rooms are somewhat neglected, with torn furniture, cigarette burns on the bedside tables and more than the usual 'wear and tear'. However, it does seem to get a regular cleaning and the potted plants on the balcony are a nice touch. The friendly owner offers free Internet and use of the small kitchen, but otherwise it's a fairly bland experience and the only reason to put up here is the low price and location.
