A buzzing neon sign flashes 'Kosher B&B' over a perimeter wall, a promise not only of offering a crucial service but an emphatic confirmation of the multicultural nature of the city. Inside is decent accommodation for believers and non-believers alike.Under the supervision of the Johannesburg Beth Din, all meals and policies here confirm strictly to kosher law, which means Saturdays are quieter than you may be used to. But it doesn't mean your meal options are limited: the large, wooden-floored restaurant serves up Portuguese, Italian, vegetarian and Japanese food (kosher sushi) and is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Note that the latter are by arrangement only, and that breakfast is not available for 'outsiders' (a term used here to refer to non-guests, not non-Jews) unless invited by a guest. The dining room is also available for small functions. Most conveniences are geared towards families, with laundry services, a swimming pool and children's play area, and 24-hour security. The rooms - clean, spare and basic - aren't exactly design masterpieces, but are large and airy.
