This large, modern chain hotel might have similarly designed rooms and an identically named restaurant (Innfusion) and bar (Inntro) to its counterparts elsewhere in Ireland, the UK and US, but Jury's Galway Inn stands out thanks to its sensational setting overlooking the rushing River Corrib and historic Spanish Arch.Blending sympathetically with the surrounding historic buildings, the decade-or-so-old hotel's prime position right at the foot of the Wolfe Tone Bridge affords fantastic river views from many rooms. Others look out to the medieval Spanish Arch. All of the 130 rooms can accommodate three adults, or two adults and two children under 12, at no additional charge. A continental or full Irish breakfast is available for a fee, but if you prefer to start your day out and about, you're surrounded by a slew of Galway's most colourful cafes. The lobby wraps around an atrium opening onto a pretty private garden that's a great place for kids to run around.

Galway's new city museum is opening adjacent to the Spanish Arch. Nearby (in summer) you can also get an insight into Galway's history as well as Irish literature at the former home of Nora Barnacle, who later became Mrs James Joyce. The house, which Joyce visited regularly, is now a small museum.
