Lonely Planet Review

Quotes After an exhilarating day of skiing at one of the region's many resorts, sink into a leather chair next to the cosy fireplace at this comfortable inn. One look at the stone building, with its wooden gables and surrounding woodlands, and you'll be whisked away to a country cottage in rural France.

Some rooms are very floral, bursting with chintzy charm, while others are sparse with loft ceilings, wooden beds and fireplaces. The benefit of a Jacuzzi is available only to a few rooms, but all have the comforts of cable TV, coffee makers and roomy bathrooms. Take a dip in the outdoor pool or just sit back and enjoy the gorgeous backdrop of the stone mansion from the hotel's wooden patio. Guests come from afar for the Swedish massages and seaweed wraps in the adjoining Vagheggi spa. The restaurant offers such plats de résistances as ginger duck, beef marinated in truffle oil and stuffed salmon fillets. A great package dubbed 'The Ultimate Vacation'- two days of nonstop beauty treatments, extravagant spa meals and a deluxe hotel room will set you back 709.00 (or 989.00 for two).

Author Tip

The mountains here, nestled in at the foothills of the Appalachian mountain range, are full of great ski resorts - Orford, Sutton and Mont Owl's Head - and its proximity to Vermont gives it a New England feel with a French-Canadian twist.
