Lonely Planet review

An attractive 'boutiquetel' close to Gangnam's Sinsa station, Hotel Highland is equipped with features that set the standard for upmarket motels. Devoid of the ickiness often lingering in low-grade operations, this unassuming hotel is a terrific choice for travellers looking for pampering or couples on a romantic getaway.

Get past the front desk staff and you might be pleasantly surprised by the quality of your room. Dark woody floors with a matching bedhead and complementary colour schemes all come together to create an especially agreeable atmosphere. For some reason or another, double rooms come in different sizes with non-standardised features like a wide-screen TV or a spa tub. There's also a tearoom option, an unusually cosy space created by a partition that isolates the bed to create a Korean-style tearoom equipped with two cushions and a low table. If you're with a significant other, upgrading to the suite option is recommended if you want to experience the best package of goodies this place has to offer.
