Formerly known as the Tourist Guesthouse, and just a short walk from Brunswick St, this hotel-hostel is scrubbed-up rustic: plenty of faded pine but mod cons too. All rooms have a TV and a fridge, and the doubles are excellent value. The Brisbane Manor's rooms are probably the best value in town - they're huge, with sink units, big timber wardrobes, TVs, kettles and painted weatherboard walls. The furniture is old-fashioned and homely - wicker armchairs and big four-poster iron beds adorn the older rooms. The newer rooms are a bit smaller, but still very charming, with wood-panelled walls and pine furniture. Even the single rooms have their own balcony overlooking an internal courtyard. There's plenty of sitting space, including a very charming terrace out the front, complete with lots of greenery and a tinkling water feature. Inside, the walls of the corridors are hung with historical sepia photos and funky pieces of retro art. The hostel doesn't sacrifice convenience for character, however - the kitchen, bathrooms and lounge areas are all well maintained and spotlessly clean.
