Quotes This simple, clean place is one of the most popular places in town with backpackers. Its quaint location near the top of a long flight of pedestrian stairs lends it a particular charm. The owner, a Breton who is very proud of his heritage, speaks both French and English and sees to it that the place remains spic and span.

He is also very straightforward about the noise to which the place is subject, which rules out the sunny, cheerful front rooms for light sleepers or at least those who don't plan on joining the revelry until the wee hours themselves. Back rooms are quiet, though most are very small. Still, the place merits consideration based on its cleanliness, friendliness, and location - steps from Bairro Alto's lively social scene.

How To Get There

We are near Bairro Alto a 30 meters of S. Roque Church and near Chiado.At Lisbon Airport take the shuttle (We call it the Aerobus - bus n 91)At the end of the ride, you will be in a square called Cais do Sodre.Get off and cross the square. You will find a bus stop for buses both number 758 and number 790. Take either of them with the ticket(s) you have from the Aerobus, and ask the driver to let you off in front of the church of St. Roque. There, across the square you will see a stairway going down.That's the Calcada do Duque. At Train Station of S.Apolonia take the subway until Baixa-Chiado or take the bus 28 that go to RESTELO and stop at Cais do Sodre bus stop.Get off and cross the square. You will find a bus stop for buses both number 758 and number 790.Take either of them and ask the driver to let you off in front of the church of St. Roque. There, across the square you will see a stairway going down.That's the Calcada do Duque.

Sai do autocarro e cruza a praça e encontrará uma paragem de autocarros para o nº 758 e 790. If you decide to stay here, be sure to explore the length of the Calçada do Duque, the flight of steps that run from Baixa all the way to Bairro Alto. A number of cafes and restaurants occupy the larger landings, some with pretty glimpes out across the old city and to Castelo São Jorge.
