Wild, windswept Piha is famous for surf and stunning scenery and is one of Auckland's preferred weekend getaway destinations. This is probably the best value quality accommodation you'll find in these parts, so get cracking and make a reservation.

The two suites here are tight on space, but they're filled with attractive touches and smart extras such as diminutive couches (perfect for snuggling on cold nights), good firm beds with natty bed linen, and polished floorboards. An abundance of natural light in the Kauri Suite brings the outdoors in, especially to the charming bedroom, but it's perfectly feasible that you might want to just doze on the verandah (duly slathered in mosquito repellent) and stare at the sky. Penny-pinchers are in for a treat if they book the 'Cabin', which is kitted out in true 1950s Kiwiana bach style - right down to the tight corners. It'll have you misty-eyed for a simpler time and straightforward family holidays by the beach. Piha Beach Accommodation is gay-friendly too.
