The Melbourne Metro won a recent 'best backpacker accommodation' gong in the Victorian Tourism Awards, probably for one main feature: the awesome rooftop area with its seriously breathtaking panoramic views of Melbourne's CBD. It's perfect for quiet early-morning contemplation, a relaxed BBQ, or a rocks-off party.

There are plenty of other features to keep you busy and interested, including a massive lounge area and a Travel Shop (very handy for organising your flight to Bali). There's a pool table and friendly staff. Everything's clean and spotless, but the defining feature of this place is space: from the rooms to the common area, it avoids the claustrophobic, cattle-pen feel of many hostels. There's even a reading room for true inner reflection. So don't come here if you want to live in each other's pockets and smell each other's dirty underwear.
