Don't be put off by the building's slightly under-maintained exterior because this executive hotel rates as one of the best. Although the oldest western-style hotel in Korea, this granddaddy is in step with the times with stylish decor and stimulating facilities.

Spend time at this tremendous downtown hotel and it's easy to understand why it was selected by one poll of international business travellers as the city's best. Unlike some business class hotels that make you feel like you've walked into an ice cream cooler, guests of the Chosun are greeted with a spacious lobby and a softly illuminated library lounge that looks like it came from Architectural Digest. Rooms are generally immaculate - all dressed up in what the hotel calls an Art Deco motif - though repairs to one section of damaged wallpaper looked patchy. In addition to all the accoutrements one might expect from a service-driven, executive class hotel, virtually everyone who works here, from the concierge juggling three tasks, to the fitness centre assistant, speaks English. Class and style, that's what makes this place special.
