A lively and welcome newcomer on the Athens budget travel scene, Athens Backpackers has fast become the hostel of choice for many visitors, thanks to its excellent facilities, and good-time atmosphere. With a barbecue, Midnight Oil on the stereo, and the Allan Border bar (AB - get it?) doling out cheap beers, there's no prizes for guessing it's Australian-run. It's very much a party hostel - you'll find an instant social scene here. The hostel has been set up from scratch with backpackers in mind. There are fabulous facilities; Internet connection, laundry, and a rooftop bar which gets plenty of action, with regular live music in spring and summer. Dorms are clean and comfortable; they come with six or eight beds - the former are better value and significantly less cramped. A simple breakfast is included in the price, as is bed linen. There's a good kitchen and nightly films. Some dorms have great balconies; they also have lockers. There are both mixed and single-sex dorms available. You can have a lot of fun here, and it's handily located near the metro, Plaka and the Acropolis.
