Lonely Planet Review

Quotes This long-established budget choice is in the northern part of central Athens, and has a deserved reputation as something of a summer party place. While it has private rooms, it's essentially a backpackers hostel with dorm accommodation.

While its old appeal of being handy for the train station isn't so relevant now that the metro is in place, it's still a decent choice and a good spot to meet other travellers. It has a bar that sees plenty of revelry, reached via a staircase with suggestive neo-Minoan frescoes. Accommodation is in decent eight-bed dorms, most with own bathroom. Some have a small balcony. It's kept nice and clean, and the rooms all have air-con. There are also doubles, triples, and quads (which can also be shared). Free Internet access and luggage storage is on hand, and the place feels spacious enough; there are also large common balconies. The main downside is the uninspiring location in a safe but downmarket residential neighbourhood, but it's a short walk to the metro and lively Plateia Viktoria. In summer, hostel staff meet incoming trains from the Patras ferry port and guide you to the door.

While you're up at this end of town, the National Archaeological museum is a must. A comprehensive but never dull overview of Greek sculpture and ceramics awaits, as well as the fabulous Mycenae treasures and enigmatic Cycladic figurines.
