Right in the heart of busy Athens, but on a relatively quiet street, this is a welcoming base, combining style and comfort. It's one of four good hotels run by the same group in this zone.

A recent face-lift has transformed the lobby - with a mezzanine breakfast area - into a cool, modern space, decorated Ikea-Asian with stones in vases and bamboo curls. The rooms are more traditional, but are also attractive, and some are extremely spacious. It's worth picking one on the street, if you don't mind exchanging a bit of motorcycle noise for big windows and natural light. Those on the upper floors have attractive balconies. The beds are firm if narrow, and the carpets, like an ageing heavyweight, should retire while they still have some dignity. All the rooms have fridge, safe, and climate control as well as a tiny, but spotless, bathroom. Typically for Athens, you may require several trips to get a family and luggage upstairs in the petite lift - look out for the 'moving wall'!
