Lonely Planet Review

Quotes The Arion is a classy modern hotel set in an intriguing neighbourhood. It's a short stroll from the traditional shops of Plaka and right by fashionable Psirí, and its medley of bars and eateries. With the same prices as its stablemates (Achilleas, Hermes, Plaka) it arguably offers the best value of the sisterhood.

Opened for the Olympics, the hotel is comfortably stylish, with good use of colour and texture. The enticing beds have fluffy white duvets, the floors are polished and the windows huge. It's got a great clean, new feeling, but plenty of character and professional service. The front rooms look out over the noble Agios Dimitrios church and beyond to the Acropolis, although there can be some noises of revelry from the street at weekends. At the back, the view isn't so great, but the rooms are still lovely and light. The summer roof terrace is great, as is the elegant breakfast room. If you've seen too many ancient sites, a stroll around the little streets is invigorating, with all manner of compact shops and eastern fragrances off (but not too far from) the usual tourist beat.

Author Tip

From here, the bars and restaurants of Psirí are a short stroll away. What was once a fairly grim downmarket area has been transformed in just a few years into a buzzy place full of everything from cafes to cutting-edge nightclubs. It's humming at weekends.
