Lonely Planet Review

Quotes A gem, this perennial favourite is set in a pleasant garden. But pretty posies are not the only reason this place stays popular. The family who run it are a delight. Want to learn more about local culture? Pull up a stool and have a chat.

This is a Balinese guesthouse unlike so many others. For one, breakfast does not feature banana pancakes - yes, you read that right, no banana pancakes. Instead, you'll be served mega-healthy brown bread delivered fresh daily from the well-regarded Cafe Wayan. Such whole grain health is a rarity indeed on this island where rice rules. The 12 rooms also have a different vibe. There's more artwork than usually found at places in this price range, with many items made by close friends of the family. The cheapest rooms have cold water only. For a little more, you get hot water and better views of the small valley beyond the property's edge. All rooms have modern bathrooms which - like everything else - are pristine.

Author Tip

This very quiet stretch of Jl Sukma has few other establishments aimed at visitors and that's precisely the reason for staying here. The recommended rice paddy treks to some of the museums and historic sites to the east are easily accessed, as is the popular traditional dance venue at Peliatan.
