Lonely Planet Review

Quotes Out the front, there's a pleasant and reasonably sheltered garden area that is the perfect place to pass the afternoon with a good book or writing postcards. The rooms themselves are nothing to write home about, but they do have mosquito nets and they're spacious and tidy. Staff won't overwhelm you with the warmth of their welcome (especially if you arrive in the afternoon and wake them from their siesta), but they're friendly once they warm up and if the place is full its public areas make it an agreeable travellers' hang-out. Staying here does mean that you're a brisk 20-minute hike into town across the Pont des Martyrs, but the area is good for those who prefer the streets home to local schoolchildren over guides.

Author Tip

Not all roads lead to the centre of town, so make sure you at least once venture south and southwest into the Badalabougou l'Ouest areas where you'll find markets, children skipping their way home from school and old Malian men who love to sit and talk.
