Residency Rd is as busy as it gets for Bangalore - which is pretty damn busy. Little more than a stone's throw from the day-long chaos, though, the salmon-pink painted Ballal Residency provides some much needed peace amid its own compound.

Although it's nothing fancy, the Ballal literally rolls out the red carpet for its guests. Its rooms are large and very clean, and come with balconies, big mirrors and a comfy sitting area. Bathtubs, however, are midget sized. The mini-bar fridge is packed with soft drinks, and the air-con is individually controlled so you can get the room temperature just how you like it. Non-meat eaters will be pleased to know the Ballal is a fully vegetarian undertaking, with the popular Palm Grove restaurant downstairs serving hearty north and south Indian thalis as well as a long list of juices, shakes and ice creams. Fresh Indian sweets are made and sold on the premises, too.
