Lonely Planet Review
Resembling an old Bangkok-style building, Baan Sabai is aptly named for its relaxed atmosphere and pleasant garden courtyard. The rooms are small but solid with modern baths and noise-proof concrete walls, while the bar downstairs is retro-cool.
As tends to be the case everywhere, the windowless fan rooms are cramped, dank cubicles devoid of breathable air and natural light. It must be noted, however, that the sheets are clean and the mattresses are quite acceptable. Doubling your investment will get you a pleasing 'deluxe' room in which you have space to leap about, a private hot shower, a table and a view over some of the greener sections of soi Rambutri. The (slightly) more expensive rooms are almost as bare as the dank cubicle ones, with the same worn paint and scrubbed tiles, but without that enclosed, clammy feel. The quality ambience here resides downstairs, with plants and ponds in a tranquil inner courtyard. The bar/restaurant is full of character, with retro bric-a-brac like old Pepsi signs and antique fans. Add a big wooden bar and you've got a chilled and atmospheric place to hang out.
