Lonely Planet Review
Many are tempted by the astounding panoramas and city-wide reputation of Thailand's highest tower, an impressive landmark that dominates the skyline. Aside from the magic views they offer, the rooms at the Baiyoke are unfortunately a letdown.
The pale-blue furnishings and beige carpets are all new and adequate but are a far cry from 'top end' standard. While homely and well-equipped they are bland and soulless. The bathrooms are large but unadorned and even the superior 'skyzone' rooms, while dizzyingly high, are plain and badly laid out. And yet, here's the clincher: the views are simply phenomenal. All rooms have extensive windows, with Bangkok laid out below in all its mad, congested, skyscraped splendour. So if you're a view junkie or a masochistic sufferer of vertigo, this is the place for you. But if you came to Bangkok wanting to spoil yourself with a fabulous hotel room there are more aesthetic options elsewhere. Significant reductions are regularly offered, however, transforming this from an average deal to a great one. Guests also get discounts at the various restaurants and bars.
