This excellent eight-room guesthouse in the centre of town is one of the better central options in Barcelona. The tiled rooms are large, spotlessly clean and come with their own kitchens and bathrooms. It's a very professionally run place that shows most noticeably in the friendly welcome and the rooms that seem not to have aged since they were built. Air-con, TVs and, for all but one of the rooms, a balcony or private terrace create a package that's hard to beat, especially if you're planning to be in Barcelona for a week or more and don't feel like eating out every night. You're also in the heart of town but just far enough removed from the crowds to ensure a good night's sleep. The owners happily share their knowledge and they have an information desk set up to answer FAQs about the city. Highly recommended. Please note: taxes are not included in rates displayed.

La Rambla is an essential Barcelona experience, but Avinguda del Portal de l'Àngel is one of central Barcelona's more underrated boulevards. It offers a good way to enter the enchanting Barri Gòtic without having to elbow your way through the crowds.
