Lonely Planet Review
Sociable and central, this popular place hums all day with music and the comings and goings of a young crowd. The simple rooms range from basic dorms to comfortably compact en suite doubles. Those with an aversion to birds should steer clear because a very large and uncaged parrot named Frederico occupies the foyer; he's less formidable than he looks.
Some of the rooms offer a rare bonus for budget travellers - balconies. From here you can watch the crowds and street theatre that is La Rambla. Understand, however, that you'll need to bring earplugs if you want a good night's sleep. The hostel's owners do their bit by forbidding alcohol, friends of guests in rooms and noise within the hostel after midnight. If that sounds a bit like a prison camp, you'll be grateful if you're trying to sleep. One drawback is that the mattresses in some rooms sag a bit. There may be better places elsewhere but it's still a very good choice for those who can't get enough of La Rambla.
