If only all hostels were this good. An immaculately maintained, elegant place, the Windsor combines a fine location with a friendly, family-run atmosphere. Try for a room facing the street as this is hardly La Rambla's noisiest corner. Cheaper rooms without a bathroom are also available.

The elderly couple who run Hostal Windsor are friendly and discreet - some might call it old-style decency - and you can tell that they're very proud of their hostel simply by the care they take in looking after it. The rooms are spacious and have those wonderful high ceilings of older Barcelona apartments. Some have the original features intact, such as rose ceilings and elegant cornicework. Rooms with bathrooms are a bargain, although - not surprisingly - they fill up fast. The location is also terrific - close to the metro and within walking distance of La Rambla.

How to Get There

You will be in the most central area of Barcelona. Near from La Pedrera, Casa Batlló, Las Ramblas, Catalunya Square, etc. and in the surroundings from the hostel is the most interesting offer in the night (pubs, discos, ...) in Balmes Street and Aribau Street.
Airport Directions: In order to get to the hostel from the airport you can get the Aereobus that will leave you in Plaza Catalunya. This will leave you at a five minute walk from the hostel.
Train Station Directions: You can get the train to Sants Station and tranfer to the metro (L3 - Green) until Passeig de Gracia or Diagonal (both are very near from the hostel). This will leave you at a five minute walk from the hostel.

Almost across the road, the Cerveseria Catalana is a typical Spanish bar that is full all day - good coffee and croissants in the morning and great tapas throughout the rest of the day. From there it's a pleasant walk down the Rambla de Catalunya. Tree-lined and quiet, it provides a gentle introduction to Barcelona's clamour before noise levels begin to rise at Plaça de Catalunya.
