Lonely Planet Review
Every room, even the least expensive on offer, is full of restrained charm, with dark wood furniture and blood-red carpets. This is one of Barcelona's most exclusive addresses. As the rest of Barcelona races headlong into the 21st century, the Avenida Palace holds fast to the classic values of the past.
The dining rooms are studies in antique splendour, and everyone who works here manages to balance the twin characteristics of being at once deferential and old-fashioned friendly. The rooms have the occasional period piece - a writing desk that would have been fit for Dickens, or ornate table lamps, for example. The beds are so comfortable that you'll be loathe to leave, while flowers in every room add a hint of freshness to this distinguished old hotel.
