Lonely Planet Review
From the people who brought you the Hotel Continental comes a restored mansion with extravagant flourishes. Rooms are exuberantly coloured and well-sized and the all-day snacks and drinks buffet is a definite highlight.
Subtlety is not something the owners of this hotel believe in. From the sweeping, grand staircase with wrought-iron balustrades to the floral wallpaper and period ceilings, the Continental Palacete is a sensory experience that you won't forget in a hurry. Restored to its full 1860s splendour, it's not to everyone's taste, but is the only one of its kind in Barcelona and is usually full. The rooms are larger and brighter than those at the sister Hotel Continental, but the same family friendliness applies. The breakfast buffet (included in the price) is clearly designed to feed a small army, but stays open throughout the day - snacks, coffee, cold drinks and even reheatable food (every room has a microwave). The rooms also come with fridges, satellite TV, air-conditioning and some have balconies, allowing a momentary escape if the colour scheme all gets too much for you.
