Lonely Planet Review
This hotel is a curious mix of over-the-top homage to Gaudí (look for the trencadís - tile details using broken pieces of glass and ceramic), straightforward rooms and a small but well-equipped gym (more aerobic than weights in focus). Overall, it's good Ramblas value with rooms that won't set your world on fire.
There is a certain cachet about staying in a hotel named after the man who did more than anyone else to make Barcelona famous. The rooms, sadly, lack the great man's inspiration, although their warm tones and semi-luxurious marble bathrooms go some way towards compensating. Some rooms are bigger than others and those at the front attract more noise and much more light. The design flourishes are reserved for the public spaces, with an elegant breakfast room and wood-panelled bar that supplements the Gaudí flourishes. The heritage facade, no-nonsense but efficient service and off-street parking may also appeal.
