Lonely Planet Review

Despite a location in the anachronistic-sounding workers stadium, this clean, extremely well-maintained hostel has youthful staff and a fresh look. Both bare-bones dorms, and private rooms (all with shared bath) are available. Party lovers should note that the Sanlitun bar street is just a kilometre away.

Despite its proximity to one of Beijing's best party streets, this hostel also appeals to the health conscious. The stadium grounds are large, park-like and mostly free of traffic. Jogging is possible (albeit in circles), but many enjoy just hanging out by the pond for some peace and quiet. Hostel rooms come with TV, aircon/heat and lockers, and face outward from the stadium so that even the tiny private singles are bright. As at most other Beijing hostels, you'll find a travel centre, bike rental, shop, restaurant, laundry and common area. The Internet/gaming area is set in its own closed room and is very popular with guests. Numerous restaurants and cafes circle the stadium, and more fill the streets of the surrounding neighbourhood. This is a busy area of town.

Author Tip

The stadium grounds are pleasant, and in the morning many Beijingers come to exercise. Nearby Poly Art Museum ranks as one of China's best collections of bronzes and Buddhist effigies. The daoist Dongyue Temple offers a disturbing look at the afterlife. Ritan Park is one of Beijing's oldest, and was originally built as a venue for sun sacrifices.
